February finds us celebrating Valentine’s Day on the 14th capturing all the romance it brings with thoughts of love and hearts.
I find myself with any spare time in my workshop looking through my collection of sea glass for naturally shaped hearts . These hearts have sometimes taken decades to be formed into shape by the constant tumbling of the sea against rocks and sand along our beautiful UK coastline.

Seaglass hearts are very unique and extra special , their colour’s capturing the calm, sparkling magic of the coastline.
The sky blues, sea greens ,seafoam mint and creams all reflect the shades of our coast and look spectacular when surrounded by a silver setting made specifically for their heart shapes.

In my workshop I take a 3mm or 5mm deep bezel strip of fine silver depending on the depth of the seaglass heart to create the setting . This holds the heart shape securely within and being a backless setting allows the light to shine through the seaglass.
Earrings can shimmer with the light penetrating its frosty surface whilst with pendants they can be worn on either side dangling from their chain.

Earrings are very challenging as with natural seaglass its organic shape is unique and never identical.

These hearts show how amazing nature can be in recycling our glass that has found its way into the sea.

Some seaglass from the North East coastline of the UK have heart shape colours within it that are extremely rare . I love setting these hearts that originate back to the glass factories of the last century , possibly being over 100 years old , are stunning examples of what nature can create from our waste glass.
Showing the awesome power of how our ocean waves, tides and minerals of the sea create beautiful coastal treasures.
Treasures that are a great gift for any beach lovers as a reminder of their summertime holiday , seaside memories, or a keepsake that captures the essence of the ocean.
